2024 US Open: Predictions and favorites to win the 124th U.S. Open at Pinehurst (1)

The 124th U.S. Open, a momentous event in the world of golf, is just a few days away from its grand start at the No. 2 course at Pinehurst Resort & Country Club. This highly anticipated tournament will kick off on Thursday, June 13, and the final round will be on Sunday, June 16.

156 golfers, each a formidable competitor, will engage in a fierce battle on the course, all with their eyes on the prestigious title. Among them is the current World No. 1 and Masters Champion, Scottie Scheffler, who is widely expected to emerge as the victor.

While Scheffler is a frontrunner to add another trophy to his collection, the tournament is far from predictable. Golfers like Tony Finau, who has been steadily building their momentum in every tournament, is also considered a strong contender for this year's U.S. Open.

Here are the current predictions for the 2024 U.S. Open.

2024 U.S. Open predictions

CBS Sports: Tony Finau is a sleeper that can win

Patrick McDonald writes: "After a somewhat forgettable spring, Finau is beginning to find his stride. A top-10 finish at Jack's place marked his first since the end of March and could be a sign of things to come this week at Pinehurst. One of the best iron players in the game, Finau has started to match his ball-striking prowess with a little short-game magic. His major championship results have been poor over the last handful of years, but he has shown he is capable on this stage as noted by a couple top 10s in this championship."

Fox Sports: Scottie Scheffler to win +300

Staff writes: "There really isn’t anything I need to say here. Usually I avoid playing for such a short price in a major, but there’s also the chance we’re looking up at the oddsboard on Thursday afternoon, and suddenly he’s +180. So you’ll be glad you’re holding 3-1 at that point."

Sports Illustrated: Scottie Scheffler

Iain MacMillan writes: "At the very least, Scottie Scheffler is going to be in the mix on Sunday. Him not being in the picture in the final round would be the most shocking thing we'd see this weekend. His elite ball striking was even better last week at the Memorial, gaining an eye-popping +3.59 true strokes per round with his irons. He's the best golfer in the world and it's not even close. He may not win, but he'll be right there at the finish."

Golf Week: Xander Schauffele to win

Adam Thompson writes: "Golfers who can’t hit it straight off the tee at Pinehurst aren’t going to be successful. Contenders must do that, be prepared to work off the green due to the sloping nature of several putting areas, and they’ll need to score using the putter as well. Only one golfer ranks in the Top 26 in Drive Accuracy, Scrambling and Strokes Gained: Putting."

Action Network: Collin Morikawa

Derek Farnsworth writes: "I’m not going to lie — betting anyone not named Scottie Scheffler is scary at the moment. I am breaking up my two outrights into two different bets (for a half-unit on each) – one on the outright and one on the winner without Scheffler market. Morikawa has a lot going for him this week. For starters, he’s a perfect fit for the course. He’s one of the best total drivers of the ball on Tour and is third in the field in Strokes Gained: Approach over the last 18 months. His short game has never been anything to write home about, but he has gained at least 1.4 strokes around the green in six of his last seven starts and has gained at least three strokes putting in three of his last five starts. If the short game holds up, I expect him to be in the mix on Sunday. He enters the week in tremendous form after finishing second, fourth, T4, T16, ninth and T3 in his last six events."
