How to Recruit the Ogres

Convince Them to Not Kill You

NPC Dialogue How to Recruit the Ogres | Baldur's Gate 3 (BG3)|Game8 (3)
''...and you, a delicacy - unless you bear the mark, of course.''
Dialogue Options Dialogue Results
[DECEPTION (DC10)]
''I'll do you one better - I'm one of the Absolute's chosen disciples.''
Success
The Ogres will not become hostile Failure
Prove that you're affiliated with the Absolute another way

Before approaching the ogres, make sure to separate the party member who walks up to them, and have the rest of your party on standby on top of the roof incase you are forced to fight them.

The first thing you will have to do is convince the ogres to not kill you. You can pass this skill check by having someone with high Charisma, and a proficiency in Deception, Intimidation, and Persuasion, like Wyll, to talk to them. Doing so will give you better chances of succeeding.

What is Charisma?

Failing the First Check

NPC Dialogue How to Recruit the Ogres | Baldur's Gate 3 (BG3)|Game8 (4)
''I expect more than your word. Show me your flesh.''
Dialogue Options Dialogue Results
[DECEPTION (DC10)]
Flash your arm at him. ''There you are. You could see the brand, could you not?''
Success
The Ogres will not become hostile Failure
Force into fighting the Ogres
[INTIMIDATION (DC10)]
''Do not test the Absolute's finest, ogre. You would not survive her Wrath''

If you failed the first check, you will have another chance to convince them by passing one of the two choices above. It is important to have someone with good Charisma to speak with them because if you fail this check, you will be forced into a difficult fight with the ogres and can no longer recruit them.

Negotiate a Deal with Them

After convincing them, you can ask them to fight for you and negotiate a deal with them. Once you make a deal, one of the Ogres will give you Lump's War Horn which you can use to summon them in any battle.

How to Negotiate with the Ogres

NPC Dialogue How to Recruit the Ogres | Baldur's Gate 3 (BG3)|Game8 (5)
''Make me an offer. Tempt me.''
Dialogue Options Dialogue Results
[DECEPTION (DC10)]
'''1000 - to be paid once the killing's done.''
Success
The Ogres will help you in battle Failure
You cannot recruit the Ogres
[PERSUASION (DC20)]
''I'll pay you in the flesh of the fallen - you'll have your fill.''
''I'll give you 500 gold if I can call you into battle.''

Persuasion

After chatting with them for a bit, you will have the option to ask the ogres to fight for you instead of the gobbos. The best choice for this one would be Persuasion since you will not have to pay them anything to get Lump's War Horn. However, this has a high difficulty check of 20, and you can only have them help in battle once since they will be dissatisfied with the deal and leave.

Deception

The easier choice is Deception since it only has a difficult check of 10. After using Lump's War Horn in battle, the ogres will want you to pay them 1000 Gold, but you can deceive them again and call them into battle once more. Even so, the ogres will eventually catch on and become hostile if you keep deceiving them, so be prepared to kill them when they retaliate.

Failing the Skill Checks

If you fail one of the skill checks, your only option is to pay them 500 gold if you want their help. You could also choose to disregard the deal entirely if you think paying this amount is too high, and they will not attack you for doing so.

How to Summon the Ogres in Battle

Sound the War Horn

How to Recruit the Ogres | Baldur's Gate 3 (BG3)|Game8 (6)

Lump will give you his war horn if you successfully made a deal with him. When it is your turn in battle, head into your characters inventory and right click on Lump's War Horn. Then, choose the option ''Sound'' and it will summon the ogres to help you fight.

Additionally, it is possible to summon the ogres more than once because the war horn can be used in multiple battles. Although, keep in mind that the ogres will attack everyone, including you, if you don't have a deal with them.

FAQs

How to recruit 3 Ogres in BG3? ›

If you wish to recruit them, you'll need to speak with the Ogres, convince them not to eat or attack you, and then pass a DC 20 Persuasion or Deception check to recruit them. This will grant you a horn you can use to call the Ogres to your aid.

How to get to Act 3 Baldurs Gate 3? ›

From the Moonrise Towers Waypoint, just north of the Towers themselves, head directly west along the path. Eventually, players will come to a bridge near the edge of the map, which the path continues under to lead to a Waypoint and the transition point for Act 3.

Can you summon Ogres in Mountain Pass BG3? ›

Can only be used in Act One areas (including the Underdark, but not the Mountain Pass). If payment was promised to Lump and the players pass this point of no return, the ogres will show up to violently collect their promised spoils.

Is it worth killing the Ogres in BG3? ›

Although killing Ogres is not the most profitable solution, it is the fastest. Approaching the Ogres hut, you should use stealth to climb to the upper floors of the semi-ruined house.

How many times can I summon the Ogres in BG3? ›

Can You Use The Ogre Horn More Than Once In BG3? You will find yourself being able to use Lump's horn around three times in Act 1. There are some caveats: the war horn cannot be activated on another plane or level, such as the Underdark, and it cannot be used past Act 1.

Which act is longest in BG3? ›

Having completed the game myself Act 2 is by far the shortest. Act 1 is the longest followed by Act 3. But then that could change depending on what you choose to do in each. However, I did not find much to do in Act 2 even after attempting to find things to do.

How long until Orin kills your companion? ›

It depends on how you've interacted with Orin in certain dialog sequences. Basically, if you tell her to "f*** off", there is a countdown before she kills the hostage. Otherwise, if you are at least tacitly going along with her plan, she'll keep them alive indefinitely.

Should I let the squatters stay in BG3? ›

Despite Arfur's nefarious means, it's generally reasonable to side with him as long as the squatters are treated fairly. Choosing to kill them, however, is best suited for playthroughs focused on an evil path.

What happens if you let Fezzerk live? ›

If Fezzerk survived the first act, the party may encounter him again when entering Moonrise Towers. He, the rest of the goblins, and potentially Minthara are being judged for the failure to retrieve the Mysterious Artefact. Whether he and the rest of the goblins are spared or killed is left up to the party.

How to use horn for Ogres bg3? ›
