Janelle Monae showcases her flawless figure in a skimpy striped bikini (2024)

She's recently crossed over from pop star to movie star.

And whichever title she is claiming at any moment, Janelle Monae looks every inch the cover girl as she proved during a Mexican holiday on Thursday.

The 33-year-old Make Me Feel singer flaunted her fabulous figure in a skimpy striped Calzedonia bikini as she frolicked in the sands with a group of gorgeous friends.

Daring to impress, the Hidden Figures alum flashed her enviable assets as the bathing suit proved to cover very little skin.

Her pert derriere took center stage as the barely-there bikini bottoms allowed a generous peek at her backside.

She threw her trademark raven tresses up in a messy top knot.

Allowing her natural beauty to shine, the American star went virtually makeup free.

The singer first came out last April in an interview with Rolling Stone, in which she revealed she identifies as pansexual - not limited in sexual choice with regard to biological sex, gender, or gender identity.

Revealing that she had been previously in relationships with both men and women, Janelle came out, saying: 'I consider myself to be a free-a** motherf***er.'

And speaking to THEM about coming out, Janelle said she was 'terrified' to do so.

'I thought people were gonna say, "Oh, she's doing this as a publicity stunt." I thought I wasn't gonna be able to go back home and be at all the barbecues,' she explained.

'I had anxiety. And a lot of it was just untrue. It was my fear of what people were gonna say.

'And I'm thankful that I didn't allow that fear to get in the way of my freedom,' she added.

When asked if she felt like her album Dirty Computer, which was released in April 2018, was a 'public coming out', Janelle said: 'Well, one, whenever I'm making music, I start with where I honestly am and what I honestly have to say.

'I work inward, and then I focus outward, on how it can impact people and be helpful to others. But it starts with me,' she said.

Last year, Janelle was honored with the Trailblazer Award at the Billboard Women in Music event.

The singer opened her speech by stating that it's an 'honor to be in this room right now, to be in this room with so many cool-a** women.'

She also went on to thank Tierra Whack for presenting the award, and to Billboard for this honor.

She went on to discuss rumors that she's 'guarded' with her personal life, before adding that the most difficult trail to blaze is within herself.

'I've discovered the most difficult trail to blaze is the one who takes us inside of who we are, individually and as a whole.'

'Being a trailblazer is about diving into spaces unseen and undiscovered, which can be very exciting and frightening at the same time,' Monae said.

She added that being a trailblazer also leads to periods of 'uncertainty' and doubt,' and the need for a 'good therapist.'

'I struggled for a long time to write this album, but I hoped that by doing so, I've created a little more light for someone trying to discover themselves.'

The singer said that she met a young teenager in Washington D.C., who found the courage to come out to her mother and grandmother because of this album, Dirty Computer.

Dirty Computer was released in April, and received widespread critical acclaim, and is on several year-end top lists.

It was named as Albumism and NPR's top album of the year and also landed on Rolling Stone, Uproxxx and Time's best albums of the year list.
