Baldur's Gate 3: Best Daggers, Ranked (2024)

Daggers are not the most abundant weapon in Baldur’s Gate 3, nor do they actually do much damage. Additionally, not many characters can use them, and not many players are interested in them. However, there are some good arguments to be made for this weapon class, with one of them being that they are light finesse weapons that can also be thrown.

Daggers are one-handed weapons that only require Simple Proficiency to be wielded and deal Piercing damage. While their base damage is not great, the best daggers in BG3 have unique effects and abilities. Additionally, all daggers in the game have the Piercing Strike action that can make enemies bleed for more damage.

Accordingly, this list has been updated to include tables detailing all the relevant stats and effects of the daggers available in the game. It is also important that players are able to find the daggers they wish to take into battle. With even more daggers listed, players also have more options for the various stages of the game, as naturally, the very best BG3 daggers are mostly found in Act 3.

• Location: The Worg Pens, Shattered Sanctum, Act 3.

Another dagger with questionable utility is the Worgfang . The dagger itself isn't bad in any way, but the Worgfang is rather limited in how useful it can actually be to the wielder.

This Uncommon dagger offers the wielder the ability Goblin’s Undoing, which sounds great, but one has to consider how many goblins they are going to fight. The ability itself has goblins roll at a disadvantage on attacks against the wielder. The Worgfang dagger can be found in the Worg Pens, on the skeleton with two worgs near it.

12 Assassin’s Touch

Base Damage: 2~5

• Location: Reward for completing the Save The Goblin Sazza quest, Act 1.

Assassin's Touch is another Uncommon dagger that falls a little short in the amazing weapon department. But unlike the previous two, this particular dagger, in the hands of an imaginative, resourceful, and somewhat devious player, can be a useful tool.

By itself, it only deals with the standard 1d4 damage of basic Daggers. However, if an enemy happens to be knocked out or sleeping, it also does an additional 1d4 of Necrotic damage. It can be acquired by completing the Save The Goblin Sazza quest in the Shattered Sanctum. This makes it one of the best early-game Daggers in Baldur's Gate 3.

11 Dread Iron Dagger

Base Damage: 2~5

• Location: Purchased at the Murder Tribunal after accepting Bhaal, Act 3.

For lovers of stealth builds in Baldur's Gate 3, the Dread Iron Dagger is a great option, as it deals extra damage when the wielder attacks while hidden.

The only downside is that players will need to wait until Act 3 to acquire this dagger, as it is sold by Echo of Abazigal in the Murder Tribunal. However, this is only an option if players have accepted Bhaal, a decision that any morally good character will want to avoid.

10 Murderous Cut

Base Damage: 2~5

• Location: Dropped by Bhaal cultists, Act 3.

The Murderous Cut Dagger makes for a good backup weapon, either dual-wielded alongside a stronger melee weapon or as an up-close option for rangers. This is because it deals an extra 1d4 Piercing damage to enemies who have less than half of their health remaining, meaning players should strike first with their primary and then finish the job off with Murderous Cut.

Unsurprisingly, this nasty piece of work is dropped by Bhaal cultists, with a number of them having a version of it in their inventories during Act 3. These cultists can be found in certain parts of the City Sewers and at the Temple of Bhaal.

9 Ritual Dagger

Base Damage: 1~4

• Location: Near Abdirak at the Shattered Sanctum, Act 1.

While stronger than the Common daggers, the Ritual Dagger only offers standard damage, which is 1d4. However, it also offers an additional benefit. After a successful attack with the Ritual Dagger, the wielder receives an additional +1d4 bonus to their attack rolls and saving throws until the end of the wielder’s turn.

Players can find the Ritual Dagger on a table near Abdirak in the Shattered Sanctum. One thing to note is that the dagger disappears along with Abdirak if the player has not taken it before they start a fight with the goblins. So, the solution – take the dagger and then fight the goblins.

8 Ritual Dagger Of Shar

Base Damage: 3~9

• Location: On an Altar in the Sharran Sanctuary, Act 2.

Despite not having a special ability, the Ritual Dagger of Shar is still an incredibly strong weapon, thanks to the additional 1d4 Necrotic damage it deals. It also has a Weapon Enchantment of +1, which means attacks are more likely to hit. This is one of the most underrated aspects of weapons in BG3​​​​​​.

The best thing about this dagger is that, unlike many other high-damage weapons, players don't need to wait until Act 3 to obtain it, as it is found in Act 2. More specifically, it is found on an altar in the Sharran Sanctuary, which is an underground temple accessed from Reithwin Town. Players should prepare themselves for a fight when picking it up, however.

7 Gleamdance Dagger

Base Damage: 3~6

• Location: The docks at Rivington, Act 3.

The Gleamdance Dagger is a great all-around option, as it has good damage, a defensive bonus, and even gives out light. The +1 bonus to AC is always going to be useful, as it makes characters harder to hit, although this particular passive will only work if the dagger is used off-hand.

To find the Gleamdance Dagger, players will first need to reach Act 3 and then head down and west from Rivington until they reach the docks. There is a lot of combat here, and one of the Guild members players might take down is Farlin, who will drop the Dagger.

6 Sussur Dagger

Base Damage: 2~5

• Location: Acquired as part of the Finish The Masterwork Weapon Quest, started in the Blighted Village, Act 1.

What might have been one of the most useful, if not the most useful dagger in the game, the Sussur Dagger , sadly, fails to rank higher. It tends to be rather inconsistent when it comes to offering its full potential. Not only does the Sussur Dagger offer a +1 weapon enhancement, but it also silences targets on hit.

Unfortunately, it does not Silence when thrown, and also, apparently, does not silence when wielded in the off-hand. Even then, it seems, the Silence ability works only half of the time when used properly. Whether it is a bug or intended is unknown, but the Sussur Dagger can be acquired after finishing the Finish the Masterwork Weapon quest, which begins in the Blighted Village. To craft this dagger or another of the Sussur weapons, players will need to venture into the Underdark.

5 Rhapsody

Base Damage: 2~5

• Location: Dropped by Cazador in his dungeon as part of The Pale Elf quest, Act 3.

This museum piece of a dagger would be absolutely impractical in any real-life fighting scenario due to the way it is shaped. It may not offer the player thunderbolts and lightning, but it can be very very frightening, especially in the hands of a well-suited wielder.

Other than the +1 weapon enhancement, which one would expect from a very rare dagger, it also offers a +1 to Attack Rolls, damage, and Spell Save DC for every foe the user slays, up to a maximum of +3. If that was not enough, the Rhapsody also has a chance of inflicting Bleeding on an enemy while using it when the wielder is Hiding or Invisible. The Rhapsody can be acquired during “The Pale Elf” quest in Cazador’s Dungeon, where it is dropped by Cazador Szarr.

4 Dolor Amarus

Base Damage: 3~6

• Location: Purchased at the Murder Tribunal after accepting Bhaal, Act 3.

Dolor Amarus is an aptly named Dagger as it roughly translates to bitter pain, which any foe on the receiving end will most definitely feel. With good base damage thanks to its Weapon Enchantment +2, it is a decent option regardless. However, it is arguably best used as an off-hand weapon, as when players crit with either this Dagger or their primary, the Dolor Amarus passive will cause them to deal an extra 7 damage.

There are two ways to acquire Dolor Amarus, but for either option, players must have reached Act 3. The first way to get their hands on this deadly Dagger is to find and kill the serial killer Dolor, who will drop it. Alternatively, players can purchase it from Echo of Abazigal in the Murder Tribunal, although for this option, they must have accepted Bhaal.

3 Cold Snap

Base Damage: 2~8

• Location: Purchased from Ferg Drogher in Rivington, Act 3.

Despite simply being a Rare item, the Cold Snap dagger is one of the best BG3 daggers, thanks to the bonus 1d4 Cold damage it deals. It also offers two defensive bonuses, increasing a character's AC and chilling enemies who fumble their attacks.

The Cold Snap dagger can be purchased from Ferg Drogher, a trader found in Rivington, after players reach Act 3 of Baldur's Gate 3. Players should be careful not to include Shadowheart in the party if she has rejected Shar, as after the initial dialogue, Ferg will walk away and never return to trade. It is her whom he is there for.

2 The Stillmaker

Base Damage: 3~6

• Location: Under the Open Hand Temple, Rivington, Act 3.

Another Very Rare addition to the list is the Stillmaker. This one is specifically targeted at players who want easy control of the battlefield. First and foremost, though, is the fact that it offers a +2 weapon enhancement.

Secondly, and more importantly, it has the ability “Hold Person,” which is a Level 2 spell. This spell makes any humanoid enemy unable to move, act, or react and even turns any attack made on that person from within three meters into a critical hit. The Stillmaker dagger can be found under the Open Hand Temple in Rivington after a successful Perception Check near a hole at coordinates X: 68, Y: -1018.

1 Blade Of The First Blood

Base Damage: 3~6

• Location: Dropped by Orin, Act 3.

Blade of the First Blood is a Legendary item and arguably the best dagger in BG3. It grants the wielder access to the True Strike divination cantrip, which gives the wielder Advantage on the next attack roll against a creature, making enemies vulnerable to piercing damage if wielded in the main hand.

It also provides “True Strike Riposte” when wielded in the offhand, which provides the player with retaliation and the gain of “True Strike” when a creature misses the wielder. Blade of the First Blood is dropped by Orin, one of the main enemies in the game. Depending on events in the story, this dagger may also be known as the Bloodthirst .
